Craters of the Moon National Park

 Craters of the moon

and lava!

Day one:  it took us about 2 hours to get here from Idaho Falls

(plus dump and fill)

once we got here we payed for our site and got set up.

After going to the visitor center to get junior ranger books we did the 7 mile loop drive

our first stop was a half a mile loop that walked around a volcano graveyard,

(I call it a volcano graveyard because volcanos erupted so violently that they tore themselves apart)😔

next was a lot of pullouts and as you drive, to either side of you is volcanic rock as far as you can see

then we finished the loop and went back to the camper because it was getting really hot.

Day two:  we got up a little early because we wanted to beat the heat, and we did.

we did three hikes in total: the inferno cone, the splatter cones, and the Broken loop trail.

really easy hikes, they all have a lot to offer.

after that we went back to the camper to eat lunch, then went to the EBR-I.

its a museum of nuclear reactors,

the building itself used to be a nuclear power plant.

Our tour guide was very informational

I didn't understand most of it, but it was pretty cool.

then on the way home we stopped at a really cool playground that had a marry-go-round

after that we got our permeant for the caves at Craters of the Moon

it was a short hike to get to the caves.

the only ones open at the time we were there was the tear drop cave and Indian cave.

we did Indian cave first, it was huge we explored every part of it

(these caves are lava tubes)

then we did tear drop cave, it was not as impressive as Indian cave.

then we went home to eat dinner

Day three:  in the morning after breakfast we went to get another cave permeant for today,

(we wanted to get another cave permeant because there was a ranger talk there today)

the weather said that it would be overcast, and rainy all day long.

The ranger stopped 4 times on the way to the caves to tell us about the lava,

(he was also very informational)

even though we did the caves before they were still very cool

on the way back to the car it started raining really hard

after that we went to the visitor center to get our junior ranger badges

then we went home to do some school and because it was a crummy day.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!
